April 27-29 Work Weekend

Greetings everyone,

Just a note to let you all know that this work weekend was a great success. We had 60 workers attend, Paramount Terrace being the only church represented. The weather was awesome, and the workers really attacked the list I had for them with no fear! Here is a list of the things accomplished... it is kind of lengthy, but I feel it necessary for you all to be kept up to date on the happenings here:

  1. Installed new vinyl in the chow hall kitchen and dishroom.
  2. Cleaned out and prepared the chapel storeroom for outdoor adventure equipment.
  3. Installed 10 new cabinets and countertop in chapel storeroom for supplies.
  4. Installed 4 new cabinets in the chow hall, above the coffee machine and drink station.
  5. Moved nurse's station from mobile home to chow hall porch cabin
  6. Installed 1 new cabinet in nurse's station on chow hall porch
  7. Painted entire exterior of Charlie Butler's mobile home (brown with green trim to match the John Paul cabin)
  8. Removed old stove from chow hall kitchen and installed stainless steel stove donated by Los Alamos Christian Church.
  9. Demolished small walkover bridge between the chow hall and AB Martinez's house and re-built with new bridge, also repairing the raised sidewalk leading to bridge.
  10. Moved chapel TV monitors one truss closer to seating area, for easier viewing.
  11. Installed more lighting in Chapel storeroom.
  12. Moved "hidden" light switch from behind Men's side entry door in shower house to correct side of entry door.
  13. Installed smoke detectors in Henderson and McBride cabins
  14. Installed another light fixture in the John cabin to eliminate dark area.
  15. Installed small cabinet in John cabin for camper belongings
  16. Replaced chow hall porch swing eye bolts
  17. Moved PVC pipe and rack to enable finishing removal of 2 ponderosa pine trees behind Mountain View cabin
  18. Painted kitchen porch on AB Martinez house.
  19. Cleaned up and burned accumulated brush and scrap lumber from entire camp
  20. Moved "firewood pile" from the front of the AB Martinez house to a more discrete location near the old dump area (to aid in keeping the camp looking more tidy)
  21. Moved old metal dorm stove to storage area
  22. Repaired fallen sheetrock from ceiling in oven room in chow hall
  23. Cleaned all chairs in chapel and welded repairable chairs and discarded irreparable ones
  24. Cleaned entire chapel, including all windows, yes, even the high ones
  25. Cleaned old girls dorm lobby
  26. Cleaned out and set up canteen
  27. Cleaned Henderson Cabin
  28. Finished painting back porch and tile in bathroom of McBride cabin
  29. Repaired and finished ropes course elements
  30. Cleaned up fallen brick and rock from south east end of chow hall where fallen from building

I am sure I have forgotten some items that were also done. These were the main focus of the work weekend. Next weekend will be concentrated on putting the chow hall kitchen back together, and major cleaning of the rest of the cabins.
